Maironis Lithuanian School: 75th Anniversary Gala
May 31, 2025 - Yale Club of New York City
I am a Lithuanian living in New York, and this school has been part of my life for years. I once taught Lithuanian language and history here and often played piano at community celebrations. When I was invited to emcee the 75th Anniversary Gala at the Yale Club, it felt like coming home to honor the people who built this community and the students who will carry it forward.
The evening brought together alumni, families, and cultural leaders, including representatives from Lithuania’s cultural office in the United States. I hosted bilingually, helped shape the flow of the program, and made sure every thank-you and performance landed with warmth and clarity. It was less about being on stage and more about holding space for everyone’s story.
What stayed with me most was the energy of the younger generation. They were prepared, proud, and unafraid to step up for our traditions. Hearing them speak in fluent Lithuanian reminded me why this school matters. It keeps language, music, and memory alive in New York, and I am grateful to play a small part in that.
